Program Policies
Values define who we are as students, faculty and community members and are central to defining our quality of life. Regis University graduates should be interested in the society in which they live, sensitive to other's needs and reflective upon the values that transcend the goals of money, fame and success. The University strives for graduates who will be leaders-in-service — a goal of Jesuit education since the sixteenth century that remains so today. Regis University makes an essential contribution to society by embodying into our educational process a rigorous, probing study of human problems and concerns.
Academic Integrity
Regis University is committed to intellectual integrity in its academic pursuits. Sanctions may, therefore, be imposed by the University for cheating (defined as using inappropriate sources of information on a test); or plagiarism (defined as presenting as one's own, the ideas, words or products of another). Such sanctions may include a failing grade on the assignment, failure of the course or expulsion of the student from the course or the University. The penalty is decided and imposed by the faculty after consideration of the evidence and the severity of the infraction.
Academic dishonesty also includes forgery and unauthorized alteration or misuse of one's own or another student's academic records. It further includes knowingly furnishing false information when seeking admission to Regis University. Students involved in such dishonest activity may be denied admission to the program, expelled from the University, receive a grade of "F" for those courses in which academic record integrity was violated, lose academic scholarship awards for the next academic year or receive other sanctions as deemed appropriate.
Incomplete Requests
Students may request an incomplete from their instructor if, due to unavoidable circumstances, they are unable to complete their assignments in the normal class period. It is the discretion of the instructor to approve or deny the request. Requests must be made in writing, detailing when the remaining assignments will be completed. Incomplete course work must be finished by the end of the following eight-week term. When submitting a grade of "I," the instructor will also submit an alternate grade of "F" (i.e. I/F). The alternate grade will become the permanent grade in the event the student fails to complete the required work. Extensions beyond the maximum allowable time period are not valid without the written permission of the MBA degree chair. Students on academic probation may not receive an "I" grade without the written permission of the MBA degree chair.
Withdrawal Policy
A student who withdraws from a course shall be entitled to a partial tuition refund in accordance with the refund guidelines established by the American Council on Education. Refunds are calculated for tuition only. Fees are nonrefundable. Please contact your Program Representative in regards to your materials. A withdrawal is only accepted in written form. Grades
Repeating Courses for Higher Grades
Any student will be given the option of improving a grade earned in a course at Regis University by repeating the same course at the university. The following guidelines will apply:
- Regardless of whether the repeated grade is higher or lower than the original grade, the last grade earned is the grade that will be recorded on the student's transcript. All previous grades and hours for the same course will be dropped and a footnote made to indicate that the course was retaken.
- Courses taken for grade improvement cannot be taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.
- Should a student withdraw from a course being taken for a repeat grade, the original grade will remain on the transcript.
Appeal of Disputed Grades
All appeals of disputed grades must be made in writing. The appeal must be initiated within four calendar weeks after course completion. Students should use the following procedure:
- Contact the instructor in writing to request a review of the issue.
- If the dispute is not resolved with the instructor, submit the reasons for the grade appeal in writing to the instructor and send a copy to the Degree Chair.
- The Degree Chair reviews all documentation submitted. If needed, the Degree Chair contacts the student and the instructor to arrange an interview.
- The Degree Chair approves or disapproves the appeal. If the Degree Chair approves the appeal a "Change of Grade" form must be completed and submitted to the Office of the University Registrar. The Degree Chair informs the student and the instructor in writing of the decision regarding the appeal. If the appeal is denied, the student may appeal the decision to the Director of Faculty and Graduate Curriculum.
- Written appeals to the Director of Faculty and Graduate Curriculum must be submitted within two calendar weeks of receipt of the decision of the Degree Chair. The decision of the Director of Faculty and Curriculum is final.
